What is it with women and the little black dress (also known as LBD)?!
I checked, and I must have at least twenty of these in my closet. Dresses, black, small, all types and cuts – wide, tight, long, short, cheap and expensive.
When it comes to the LBD I'm sure I'm not special or different from any other woman, so what's the deal?! Why do we obsessively collect little black dresses and even prefer them, often, over other types of dresses or other garments? How did the little black dress become the most common item in every woman's closet?
As my friend Noga says – "It's all because of the feminists!"
…Or rather because of one very special feminist, in this case, The great Ms. Gabrielle Coco Chanel. As though if she hadn't created this daring and revolutionary unusually colored controversial casual dress, perhaps we would still be wearing those tights corsets and garters with huge puffy skirts today.
It's amazing how unique creative thinking that undermines social conventions may be considered, in other periods, to be routine and common. What's even more amazing is that we tend to forget that, and many times lose confidence in ourselves and the vision.
So getting back to the little black dress, I must admit, I'm addicted. It may be because the achromatic black color (colorless) fits well with any other color or that the dress can fit any occasion and every hour a day, provided that you combine it with suitable accessories and other garments. That's how it is, just as it is in the professional life and probably also with clothes, we tend to appreciate diversity and the ease of integration in an ever-changing environment.
What will be the next revolution in the fashion world? You never know. I even Googled it and she didn't have an answer (… Obviously she's a woman – she knows everything, completes your sentence before you even finished writing it, corrects you and even knows that you meant something else entirely), it seems that we must just wait patiently and continue in the art of collecting.
