Good morning to all the dreamers!
Yes, Yes… you out there. You with the amazing ideas that wake up every morning, waiting for happiness, but life doesn’t have any room in the calendar for it.
So there are reasons, excuses, detailed explanations, but between us – Why not now?
Are you moving uncomfortably in your seat right now? GOOD! But before everything, it should be made clear – There is no need for sharp movements, embarking on financial adventures or quitting your job, god forbid. You can try, taste, test and make decisions later. By the way, after the decision has been made, it’s advised to ask questions. To check whether the path you have chosen leads you to the place you were aiming for, or whether it’s appropriate to examine a change of course.
As for me, the past year has been a wonderful journey. I joined the business school of life and realized that the journey I have chosen needs an update and minor changes so that my heels will continue to stride forward confidently. It's a continuous process of testing, updating, matching and accuracy.
So here’s what I have learned about how to turn your talent into your profession.
This is the moment to get out your pen and paper out because the land lord has gone nuts! I got up this morning in a good mood and decided to share with you some of the confidential business insights from my journey.
Firstly, and probably the most important rule that you should remember – There is no connection between talent and business success (yes, yes … lower your eyebrows, you read correctly). The fact that you are talented and that the service you offer is of quality doesn’t necessarily indicate that it can be a successful and profitable business. Business success depends on a number of components and efforts, of which talent is only one.
Secondly, before you start creating your business plan and start thinking about a variety of other terms that totally take the wind out of your sails, ask yourself two main questions – what is the product or service you offer and who is your target audience? Of course, these seem like simple questions, though the better you characterize these components, the more you will be able to focus your business activities, save resources and shorten processes.
I’ll give you an example – when I launched EIGHT30 it was clear to me that the business would appeal to two different audiences and would offer each of them a variety of services, each different from one another. The career women audience gets a collection of ideas, inspirations and tools for merging professionalism with trendy fashion and lifestyle elements. This is done through articles, lectures, workshops and personal counseling sessions. For the career women that have their own business I also offer another service – EIGHT30 FOR BUSINESS – Business photos and creative headshot photography that will help them strengthen their personal brand and establish trust with their customers. I characterized and defined the "career women" audience as well as the array of services I offered them. Another target audience I wanted to appeal to were the “advertisers" – companies that offer products and services in different fields, who want to access and gain exposure to career women. This audience was also offered an array of content production and collaboration services to match their target audience.
In short, it’s time to think outside the box, find alternative sources of income and a number of uses for the same product or service. Expand your target audience and exposure while still maintaining focus.
After you've finished characterizing and defining, it's time to find a shortcut!
Before investing too much time in watching marketing videos and reading high-level business articles, examine your contact list and find experienced acquaintances and contacts in the relevant fields. Your friends will provide you with good advice that will save you time and money, give you access to products or services that are relevant and necessary for you, open doors and offer ladders. All given you are courteous, smiling and grateful of course. Be open, ask for a favor without fear, you’ll be surprised to find how much people love to help those who are trying to realize their dreams … based on a true story ;-)
That's it, I think I wrote enough for one day. Remember that the world is not just waiting for you and that the journey may be arduous. But if you practice discipline, patience and proper strategy, in a year or two you can look back with great satisfaction.
Promise to share more insights soon … and if you're not convinced, maybe the next song will help
