A month ago, customs officials stopped me at the airport.
Four in the afternoon, as I happily walked along the green path, the customs officer yelled – ”You! Come here please. Put the suitcase in the x-ray machine".
I loaded the suitcase onto the conveyor belt and burst out laughing. It was clear to me that when I opened the case the officer would be instantly embarrassment.
"Tell me, what you have in the suitcase? Do you have any diamonds?" He asked, looking harshly at the screen.
"I'll show them to you right now", I said giggling, trying to hold back my uncontrollable laugh.
Curious and serious, the officer looked on as I enthusiastically opened my suitcase.
"Well …? Do you like it?" I said. But he stood with a confused look on his face standing in front of a variety of golden clothes, laden with shiny beads and glass, and just muttered "Hmmm … you have a unique taste".
After he managed to collect himself, the customs officer finally asked me, "Where did you get back from with these clothes?"
"Ahh"… I looked up at him and smiled, "I came back from a ball!" :-)
Now seriously, I have a weakness for sparkles. Anyone who knows me knows that when I have to choose between two similar items, one of which is metallic, I will probably go for the "Bling – Bling". Unlike other people, I’m also convinced that this is a color that can be worn around the clock.
But why am I telling you all this?
Because the holidays and New Year's Eve parties are over, the end-of-season sales are in full swing and the shelves remain stacked with shimmering items. So, before you rush past the stack of bling on your way to the next “basic” item or push the sequins and beads to the corner of the cupboard until the next family event, wait a moment.
You promised yourself to celebrate life and be grateful for what you have. And so, is it not time to shine with some daytime disco?!
So how do you create an everyday light look with metallic items? Well I'm glad you asked.
The shimmering items should be balanced with neutral shades such as black, white or other colors, while combining them with simple, casual items. It’s important to keep a trendy appearance and, most importantly, to allow yourself to have fun.
By the way, if the look you've created raises strange questions or expressions, you can always say that you’re on your way to a ball … after all, are you not princesses? ;-)
