THE LOOK

BRIGHTEN UP

This week I was invited to a Hanukkah dinner at a friend's place. It's been a while since I've seen most of them and the thought of that, along with this special holiday and the guilty conscience over the amount of jam doughnuts and other sweets that will surely find their way to me, made me think about the place light and darkness have in my life.

Each one of us has their own point of view, through it we see our lives, from its power we think and act, when light and darkness are expressed in different ways in our everyday reality. There are times where the darkness, or the "absence", occupies my mind much more than the "what there is". It's probably natural, a matter of ambition, looking at the road ahead instead of looking backwards or sideways and just enjoy. So yeah, there are a lot of excuses to why I don't let myself stop and relax – the busy everyday life, excess tasks, goals, objectives, the cheeky time that just doesn't seem to stop and more. All those only keep me from seeing the light.
A long time ago I realised that in life nothing is "perfect", but in this celebration of light, I made the decision to try and light a candle in my life every day. A candle that would chase away the darkness and fill my days with light. In the words of one of my favourite artists, "don't look far, stay close".
This decision also just happened to express itself fashionably (how could it not). To my delight, one of the prominent trends of winter 2015-2016, is bright colors, which are usually identified with the warm season. At the New York, London, Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks that displayed the coming winter trends, this trend was presented for the first time by top fashion houses and since then you can find an interpretation of this illuminated trend in almost every shop. Even Though it's hard to go wrong with black, blue or grey clothes, I decided to brighten up the day by wearing light colors and let the optimism take over.
Now I just have to go through this holiday sticking to the jam doughnut and lutkeh boundaries I set myself… otherwise I might have to say goodbye to the light clothes ;- )
Happy Hanukkah!
